I am troubleshooting ABS on my track car, running NASIEG 5 lug kit which uses e36 m3 hubs on e30 spindles. We had the car on track for the first time last weekend, and the ABS was causing issues immediately, it would come on sporadically with almost no brake pedal pressure. After this happened a couple times in the paddock, I unplugged ABS and ran the car like that for the weekend. It was ok, but I need to get ABS working going forward.
So far I've found that ABS sensors are side specific, and I had the sensors swapped from left to right. When you put a left side sensor on the right side of the car, it rotates the point of the sensor shaft (the sensor shaft is diamond shaped) away from the ABS ring, which creates a larger than specified gap and the ABS doesn't work.
Once I swapped the sensors to the correct sides of the car, I ran into the real issue- the ABS sensor shaft touches the ABS ring on the e36 m3 hub... Just barely! I've tried two different sensors, on each side of the car, and they all touch.
Anyone running ABS with this setup? What did you do? I have some solutions in mind, so not worried about that, I was just surprised that I hadn't seen much on this topic yet.
