If the cylinder walls look ok, and the head combustion chamber is ok.

Why not just get a new piston, 1 set of rings, and some updated retainers and new colletts.

If you need a bare block or a bare head I have both laying around.

No, i agree on preventive maintenance, but this is not exactly a part you do maintenance on.. or atleast that i ever expected to fail, plus all 24/24 lifters are solid as a rock.

As for the block, there is a pronounced gash in [this] cyl 6. I'll picture it tonight for yall. I needs a block or enough honing to req custom pistons (hmmmm).

On the head, the edge of the this combustion chamber is sort of damaged and the damage extends partially into the valve seat. This head needs more work than it takes to get a new one. If anyone wants to buy it, I’d be more than glad to give it out or next to nothing. I can always sell it for scrap aluminum and get like $15 out of it (what blasphemy is this!?!!)
      No more e30s for me.

just fyi that retainer didn't split
i don't know if thats been covered.

i have a full set of retainers i ordered for my S52 when i was rebuilding it, and I ended up not using them.

When i pulled my oil pan of the M52 im using for my swap i found one part of a valve lock in the pan. I need to pull the cams out and check to make sure they are all present and accounted for. This motor was out of a racecar in its previous life, but went through a rebuild or two, it may just have dropped down an oil galley and never recovered.

weaksauce, want to sell the retainers you didnt use?

pm'd. what do you mean by my retainer not being split? I can see the mating fracture line on both "quarters"

maybe i'm looking at it wrong. the retainer i'm looking at is split in half, by design.
let me pull out the retainers and get the part number off the bag.
i ordered them from the dealer a few years ago.

right... there are two retainers per valve... one those is split in half.

so my engine is going to make a full recovery. i was waiting on the last parts for a month.. block and head... but now they are ready to rock... LITEREALLY!

                        boom headshot!!

*edit. my old block, which i painted flaming pink, i'm going to sell it just needs a good hone...i'm kidding about the color, its stock. The head i'm going to part the valve train and maybe someone on ebay or here is interested in getting that thing off my hands for dirt cheap.

S52 retainers are not typically prone to failure as the S50 ones are. That seems like an overrev situation to me or just a random defect, hey shit happens
