my comment was more regarding the impact of rear brakes on our cars. I've heard e30'ers at the track say they use chap pads on the rear because they do all the braking with the front. i've biased a lot of braking power away from the front and into into the rear because i feel the e36M fronts overpower the hell out of the 318ti (f.piston vs r.piston wise) I still have the stock limiter valve for the rear line though.
How did you transfer more of the braking power to the rear brakes and still keep the stock limiter valve on the rear brakes?

^^ a bias valve on the front line, pre-abs pump. look right next to the radiator resevoir ; /

i'll fab the line that replaces the limiter valve when i do my front brake lines.. they look dry. I just hope i can find the same brake "tune" without having to move the bias valve to the rear line :???:

erik, give us some info what you did to your car? i know its s50b32'd (nothing special), what about brakes?
      No more e30s for me.

I'm sure my entire 5 lug swap was cheaper than say a Massive kit for the front only.

ding ding ding ding.... My front and rear and a lot of extras were still cheaper. I would challenge any one with a BBK to a stopping contest. I'd actually like to see the difference.

I'm not including my wheels of course since I would have bought wheels regardless. :)

Well, what did you pay? I'd find that hard to believe with the prices I've seen for a few 5 lug conversions, but maybe I've only seen E30 M3 stuff.

I'm running Brembo 4-piston front calipers with 330mm rotors. In the rears, I'm currently running stock M3 calipers, but I'm planning on installing some Brembo 2-pistons when I have time.
I am using the dual master cylinders from Mike B. Once I do the rear Brembos, I'll probably end up going with a Tilton pedal box.

I guess it depends on if you use E36 stuff or not

I'd be stuck using E30 M3 stuff - or E87 rear hubs. $$$. and I'd still need custom brakes, so a 4-lug BBK makes more sense.

the massive kits aren't that expensive, that's probably what I'll end up with next year.

Yeah, but if you use the good stuff--M3 fronts and M coupe rears, I figured it'd be a bit more expensive. Still thought E30M stuff typically cost around $1500-2k and E36 fronts and ti rears totalled out to about $800-1k, but I could be way off there.

I'd tend to agree, the Massive kits are pretty reasonably priced. Not like Wilwoods are the Ferrari of brakes but they are VERY cost effective (as opposed to say a pair of ST40s..).

I honestly have no idea on the cost of my stuff, I don't want to know a total price on this car! :)

I thought you gave around $800 just for the MCoupe rear. Don't know about the front, but if you add in new rotors and pads, etc.

Especially if you are like me and already have coilovers on 4 lug with good Koni's. Going Massive even for the bad boy kits is around $2500 front and rear. Then new wheels for the 5 lug, etc.

You can get some decent 17 x 8s and 17 x 9s now that clear BBKs, for under $300 each.

The only real justification I can see for 5-lug is to have a bunch of cheap OEM wheels to run. But if you are putting big sticky tires and Race brakes on your car, you are probably looking to run lighter wheels than what OEM has to offer.....

I dont know why everyone says e30 m3 is so expensive. I made 300 bucks off mine.

I remember reading that 5 lug wheel bearings are more heavy duty which may (or may not) help with pad knockback. There's also that the E30M hardware allows bump steer spacers (and easier suspension installations for those who don't like separating ball joints), not sure about E36 hardware.

The rear trailing arms after selling the subframe cost me $700.

I didn't but pads or rotors front or rear. :)

my entire setup cost me below $800. After selling my front billies, aluminum control arms and weaves my 5-lug cost me $350 or so... that's only if you count 5-lug swap itself. I did a whole lot of extra work while there, that cost me more.

e36 5-lug setup is incredibly affordable.
