    Thermostat sensor?

    Hey,
started my car, drove it yesterday, the temp gauge on the cluster didn't go past blue area/square (cold) I drove it for about 15-25mins, by that time the car should of been completely warmed up, especially since i started the car like 15/20mins before driving it, so it warms up.
Then i get home after the drive, 2 seconds later i see smoke coming from the engine bay, open it up, boiling coolant is spitting through that hold in the coolant reservoir.

Thermostat is new, and i know the gauge is working too.
My guess is the sensor(s) are bad?
Anyways, i want to change the sensor. (i did not change them, they are probably from when the car came out of the factory)
Right now i have 2 sensors there. One is supposedly and engine temp sensor and the other one is coolant temp sensor (according to the realoem at least.)
Now i am a bit confused, the connector that goes onto one sensor (female part) looks like its made for a sensor with 1 pin, currently i have a sensor with two pins there. Do i buy the sensor with one or two pins for it?
Also i dont see the difference between the two sensors, are they the same or are they different?
i tried searching 13621357414 in NAPA and oreillys (and others) they dont have those, but the 12621710512 they do.
Is the 13621357414 needs to be exactly that, or i can just get a 12621710512 with 2 pins?

    Thanks

What year and engine do you have?

"e" engines have four sensors in the thermostat housing. "I" engines have two.

If all this had just started since you changed the thermostat, you might have air in the cooling system. Bleed it and try again before starting to throw money replacing sensors.

according to real OEM the xxxx414 is for the ECU not the gauge.

the gauge sender has 1 pin

New thermostats can be bad and if you did not drill a hole in the top of the tstat flange you could very well have air trapped in the system. I don't think sensors will cause overheating

I did bleed it, and it seemed to help. Didnt think about it for some reason hah never had this issue before. Also changed the sensor cuz the gauge wouldnt show anything, and now it all works fine.
          Thanks everyone.
