    battery and alternator are good, wont charge

    (e30 m20) alternator and battery tested out fine, belt has tension, cant get the battery to charge. the battery light doesnt come on when i first start the car but i read that that was only a problem with early models(?) and mines a 90. pleeeasssseee heellllpppp.

    From the wiring diagram for a 85. See the note in the bottom right corner. You will need to find a wiring diagram for your year.

      In later clusters there is a resistor in parallel with the charge light bulb in the cluster. Check that C1 14 and C1 16 have a connection

        Need basics. Voltage at battery running voltage at alternator running.

          Yeah, wasn’t the problem that the early year models would fail to charge the battery if the bulb in the dash cluster burned out? Kind of funny that a bad light bulb can brick your car.
          My son has the 1987 325e, 2 door, 5speed
          I daily the 1989 325i, 4 door, 5speed
