There should be the serial number tag on the radio. In the past, dealers used to charge ~$50 for the code.

I pulled my Sony HU and installed a Continental. Lights are more orange than bmw factory red-orange. I'm going to refurbished my stock unit because the orange bothers me.

If I find one in my local salvage yard can I get the radio code from a dealer? What would I need? The radio in hand or the VIN off the car?

Can these be modified to accept an aux cord?

I assume I would need the harness to splice into my stock harness? That has already been butchered by a previous owner.
Most ebayers selling CD43 include code and guarantee that it'll work. Many also sell - or include free - the wiring harness plug with snipped-off wires. I think there are one or two ppl selling new or like-new plug/harness adapters. I got mine from aspeedracer345 - he included a used plug/harness free. It was a tight fit but with cleanup, a little light pinhole reaming, and electrical-contact lube works fine.
