    Head Job Book Time

Where would I find "book" time on the following:

remove head, install head, timing belt, water pump, valve adjustment, etc.

How many hours should this job realistically take vs the "book" time on it, if different?

Ive no idea what you are on about with the "book time". All depends on what is wrong with the head as to how long it takes.

4hrs to remove, 4hrs to put it all back together is what i would expect a shop to charge.

then whatever machining costs are involved with fixing up whatever is wrong with the head. Cost me about $800 AUD last time for an overhaul of my m20 head.

    then add parts costs.

Big expensive job to pay someone.

I think he is looking what is an estimate of the repair time for each component, kind of like dealer's estimate.

I remember I went to Jeep dealer once to add new head unit I installed (CAN bus vehicle). They system said something like 2 hrs to plug in Starscan tool and initialize the module. I told him that I'll give him $50 for 5 min of their labor.
