    iX rear view mirrors

Does anyone know why the hell BMW decided to put rear view mirrors on the ix's with aluminum bases that corrode out? Why do the rear drive models have ones that don't corrode (are they made out of steel or plastic or something?). Also are they are direct swap?

I took a spare ix mirror apart the other day to see if I could separate the base from the mirror housing/cover and it looks like they plastic weld the cover on to the aluminum base.

What are you talking about? Why do you think that the RWD ones are different?

I haven't seen any rwd models with the aluminum bases that corrode and rot out just ix's. Maybe I don't know what the hell I'm talking about :p

M3, coupe, sedan, iX coupe, iX sedan, I have literally all of those currently, and the mirrors are the same and have the Al bases.

Edit: Of those, the M3 was the one with the corroded mirrors.

Well shit. I guess I've been thinking the ix had a different mirror for some reason. I just looked up the part numbers too and it appears that is not the case.

            They're all the same mirrors...

they don't corrode if you don't expose them to salt lol. But unfortunately, aluminum actually has pretty poor corrosion properties.

at least they're not plastic, like everything BMW makes now.

It makes sense now that I've only seen the iX mirrors corrode here in MI because nobody drives their RWD e30s in the winter here.
