some z3 trailing arm info (mostly correct)

I believe the only thing wrong in this artice is that it states that a z3 subframe will bolt up to a e30. I believe Erik Lukas (spelling?) proved this to be wrond by about 1/4"

Yeah thats right , the Z-car rear subframe will NOT bolt into an E30 .

I would not give the credit for finding this out to Lukas though .

If they are nearly identical, then what is the point?

If they were interchangeable then one could just swap in a whole complete Z rear subframe .
That would make it really easy to get 5-lugs and bigger brakes .

As it is now you will have to change out the trailing arms put in the rear hubs and brakes from a Z car onto the e30 trailing arms .
Just a little more work .

honestly it's more work to swap a subframe than to swap hubs or trailing arms ;)

So are they mounting points different for the calipers on the z3 trailing arms than the e30? If i were to press the z3 hub into the e30 arm and try to use an mroadster/m3 caliper would I have to make a custom bracket to mount it?

It is my understanding that the Ti or Z calipers will bolt right to the E30 trailing arm .

                NOOOO

the HUB bolts to the trailing arm
the calipers bolt to the hub
use the caliper from the hub/rotor you use
you have to go all one way or all another way

edit: i misthought/misread the previous post (confused calipers/rotors - day after 4/20 I suppose) the calipers do bolt to the t-arm, so does the hub

I feel like a moron

Well yeah , the hubs were implied as he already knew he would press them in .
