    have done a few others as well. never had one blow up. that one was super simple since i had both cases and left the pinion alone.

    shims always stay with original case.

    So you basically don’t know how to change the pinion bearings; the pinion bearing set is the most important part of the entire unit and it’s a wear item

    R3vtards will continue to r3vtard even when reality calls

      if there is play/ noise i change them. i have access to a transmission shop where i do them. i also did not do the carrier bearings on that one. it all depends on the original condition.

      you are correct tho. if i can leave the pinion alone i will.

        basically lack of skills/ proper equipment;

        The pinion bearings and setup parts should be fitted with new parts along with everything else.

        Anything else is r3vtard spec action.

        It’s easy to properly replace everything and set up everything if one can read the Oem Bmw tis directions and execute.

          Shims, I have found, stay with the gearset.

          They may not be exactly right in a new case, but they are usually pretty darned close.
          Certainly better than starting from scratch.

          Having done something like a dozen or so... and only (so far) having lost one.

          YES, I changed the pinion bearings...
          now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

                they carry the clutch disc but discontinued the Dog ear plate. I'm not going to die if I cant find any. I'll just leave the diff @25% lock up. it's only a summer cruiser.

                    Are the side flange cover bolts just standard guage bolts? They don't have any stamp markings on them like hardened bolts do. Trying to figure out what guage those are. mine have rusted down from 13mm head to a 12
