    4-pot/ 6-pot brake caliper conversions!!!!

Just thought I would share this with those who are not aware, http://rallyroad.net/ sells brake caliper conversion brackets to fit porsche 996 4 piston and corvette zo6 6 piston calipers on e36 and e46 m3 spindles. I'm thinking of doing the porsche calipers on my m3 5lug set up :D

I made my own set of caliper mounts and run 996 4pots front & rear on my E30.
    LOVE THEM :D

SICK... don't know if I need any more braking power, but it would surely look AWESOME.

        Wow that sounds monstrous.

What is the diameter of the rotors and what size of wheel do you have to run to fit them? If you don't mind my asking.

323x30 front (JZA80, would have used E46 m3 rotors, but none available at the time)
          312x20 rear (E36 M3)

I have fitted 16's over them, and surprisingly E39 15's fit in the rear (very tight fit around the barrels)

            Sub-scribed!

Can you link to the kit that allows for 16" wheels front and rear?

Yummy. $150 kit for the adapters??? Is that right? Or am I reading it wrong - looks too big for 16 or even 17's? no?

It wasn't a kit, it was DIY

The wheel design would be crucial in fitting them over my own BBK.
The ones I test fitted were from an E34 (et20) but had a flat face design.
Thus lots of caliper clearance, and the lower et sat the caliper nicely in the barrel.
If I had use E46 M3 rotors (328mm) then I think they would not have fit.

                Same deal with the rear.

Looks like $175 for the mounts.
You also need to machine the 996 calipers to sit low enough onto a E46 M3 rotor.
Or, un-machined, I believe they will fit the CSL / ZCP 345mm rotors.

Why do they get rid of them?

All this big brake porn makes me wish I went 5 lug. I just bought all new stock brakes damn it!

It's a six piston caliper but it actually uses six separate little tiny brake pads per caliper. Well, I say tiny but they're honda civic sized pads. Factory and most aftermarket pad sets aren't very thick. You could burn through a set with an aggressive track day. The piston design is uniform, which isn't necessarily good. Most good monoblock caliper designs have staggered piston sizes.

I fricken love brakes. I think my e30 is the only car I haven't done some sort of brake swap on.

looks hella nice no questions about it.

but i'm thinking its totally unnecessary. i have yet to experience brake fade at the track even with an s52 in the bay. e36m / 318ti combo with track pads on cheapest rotors possible. r-comp tires. whole days of multiple 25min sessions. zero brake fade. 100,000,017 piston calipers won't help you stop any faster than the m3's 1x piston. Its all up to traction at that point. I often ask myself if the 5-lug was even worth it in my case. I only did it for track performance, ofcouse that isn't everyone's scope so this are my 0.02.

and to add to comment above. it took me about 20x DE days and 10k street miles to wear down a front set of hawk blues. I'm about 10x into HP10s and they probably have another 15DE days in em. Blues were there rusting away my rims and paint for nearly 3years hehe.. still rocking the rears they're about half way there and i'm biasing a ton of braking power to the back.
                        No more e30s for me.
