    Flywheel compatibility

I am looking for a flywheel am for my iX manual conversion.
Can I use the flywheel off a '97 318ti manual?

If not, what 3 or 5 series flywheels can I use?

    Thanks

That part number cross references to several cars.

Should have been a bit more specific... the link above is strictly for m20 flywheels. i wouldn't run anything else on the car just save yourself the trouble.

You really want a flywheel intended to be used on an M20. It's possible to make other flywheels work but the 318ti uses a heavy dual mass flywheel, plus it's a different diameter and would need a different clutch, pressure plate, TOB, etc.

I have a light weight flywheel from a 323i M20 (14 lbs vs 19 lbs for 325i M20) I just pulled from my track car, in great condition. PM me if interested.

Lucky find!!! I got this off of a 1987 e30. I gave it a nice clean on the outside. Is this the one I need?

That's a dual-mass flywheel - it's considerably heavier than the single mass the 325ix came with. Also you would need different clutch parts to work with it. I think you'd be better off finding a single mass flywheel.

Ok. Damn, I tried looking for a picture of a single mass I had a feeling it was a dual-mass one. Regardless, it was fun taking out the transmission to get to the flywheel. Thanks Nando!

There are a few aftermakret flywheels getting around, sometimes they are compatible in costs to what what a second hand one costs when you take into account resurfacing costs for the second hand one.

The website says its not for the e30 iX's but works on other e30s. Does anyone know if this'll work on the iX?

it's basically the same thing you have, except the flywheel is one piece. the standard single mass flywheel is much thinner and lighter. It would 'fit' but again it's not really the right part for your car.

the clutch/flywheel for an E30 325i should be the same as the ix if it makes your search easier.

surprised to see an 87 with a dual mass.
