    Question about replacing ring and pinion.

    I have a spare medium case open 3.73 (188mm from an e30) and i plan on eventually swapping in a 4.10 or 4.27.

    If I remove the 3.73 ring and pinion to sell, are there any internal parts of the diff that I need to make sure I keep so that I don't screw myself when I go to have the next r&p installed in a few months?

    When I have swapped centers around,
    the side case spacers seem to 'usually' stay with
    the case, and the pinion spacer 'usually' stays with the gearset.

    Or, that's at least a good starting place.

      This needs to be emphasized. PINION SPACER STAYS WITH THE GEAR-SET, NOT WITH THE DIFF. It doesn't always work out, but at least 8/10 times. For the 2/10, you need to calculate the correct shim thickness. It's kinda a pain in the butt.

        It's a total and burning pain in the butt.
        I liked the old way, with multiple spacers of fixed thickness, better.
        But it makes sense for mass manufacturing to just use one spacer
        of variable thickness.
        Makes DIY a lot less easy, tho. And makes me think I need a surface grinder...
