...yeah. the army already got in touch, this week. i don't even know how they found me. i've moved three times since i got out, the last time very recently, and the DMV and post office don't have my new address yet.

upside: they're at least trying to slot me into something that utilizes the tech skills i've been learning on the civilian side since i got out. https://www.goarmy.com/careers-and-j...pecialist.html won't be kicking in doors and clearing rooms.

downside: the training for the job they're throwing at me is 45 weeks, on the other side of the country. if i have to do that and then another deployment, i'm looking at at least two more years of active duty, at a considerable pay cut from what i'm making now.

Come on, you aren't honestly surprised the gov't found you, are you?

I die on the inside when people complain about privacy.....on the fucking internet.

If you have used the internet in the last 20 years, nothing you have done/said/been/etc is a secret.

you don't know enough about opsec/comsec/infosec to have this discussion, guy from oklahoma. that's why an army lieutenant didn't find you at a bar in a city where you don't have a registered address.

                :P

but sure. as a thought exercise- lyft knows where i live, ostensibly, because when i go out to music events and have drinks i don't drive myself home, and that's probably popped up with enough frequency. and yeah, i do frequent the place i was contacted at with some regularity, but i checked in there on facebook once.

this is scarier than you think. but whatever- i might go. better career opportunities after i get back; infosec pays more than devops.

edit: the amusing part is that they want the antifa guy, right? i've certainly made no secret of that.

You're telling me I don't know anything, yet your equivocating being found to Lyft rides and Facebook check-ins? As if THAT'S how the most powerful security state in the world found you.

Thank you for the laugh this morning. Almost as good as the Flat Earther video I just watched.

I feel like you are trivializing that they basically scoped out a bar to 'catch' a retired military member.

                    Pretty creepy lol.

uh yeah- that's the exact argument you made. how do you think we're being tracked, via the internet, other than social media and app usage? those are the current mechanisms for collecting intel. they found isis guys because they were dumb enough to post geo-tagged pictures with GPS data on instagram. do you think that isn't being stored and analyzed?

fucking duh. it's not just what you look at in your web browser. we're not in the 1990s anymore.

I feel like you're missing the point as usual to try and make some ill thought out point against someone you disagree with.

It's amusing you think the gov't isn't tracking your cell phone until you check-in at a bar or take a cab home.

                        The cognitive dissonance is unbelievable.

I dont think he doesnt think that.

Way to do exactly what you called me out for doing?

The government isn't supposed to be tracking our every move, its disappointing that it is used this much. Especially in the case of this upcoming 'i need to poll better' war.

The move against the U.S.-born British citizen was labeled farcical, and prompted immediate calls for the U.S. to overturn the decision.

                            hmm.

Well yeah they shouldn't be, but they do. And they have been for years.

Do we want to discuss reality, or wax poetic about a non-existent idealistic society?
