    Pushing a M20 to ~450whp !

    Hello,

I'm looking forward to get your opinions / experiences

    Specs:

    M20B25 / slightly ported head
    84mm crank
    O-ringed block
ARP head studs (still waiting for them)
    Custom turbo mani
    Custom intake mani
    80lbs Injectors
    Bosch 044
    Haltech ECU

    Goal : ~ 450 whp - Pump gas

My question is that currently I've a GT35 T70 (copy) turbo (similar to this)

with A/R .63 & I'm planning to put on a turbo cam (vac motorsport) .. Will this turbo + cam can reach that power levels @ reasonable boost ?

    Or

Should I buy another decent turbo (thinking of Precision sc 6266) + stock cam .. ?

    Thanks in advance,

    M20B28 Turbo

I run a 6262 t3 with .82 A/R I made 450hp on old motor 17 psi and new motor made 420hp at 15 psi. I would go bigger hot side and vac cam.

^ Which cam are you going to run? Mild grind or aggressive grind?

I've just e-mailed vac tech about that but still no answer ..

+1, thanks guys, seems like I'm going with a better turbo, but there is another one comes up in my mind .. BW s366, T4, .88, Billet ..

                    What do you guys think?

It depends what you want as far as drive ability versus peak horsepower. Also I would look into a turbo cam, m20 stock cams fall on their face after 5k.

When you double the hp of a stock motor, there are a few things to look at closely.

                        Mainly ecu/ignition/fuel upgrades
Followed by hardware upgrades. (ie what breaks first?)

Turbo piston, pins, crank upgrades etc are great for longevity, but stock stuff seems to hold up to plenty of boost abuse as well. Not the headgasket, though. The stock intake will hold power, but an upgrade there can get you more. Old stock components become a liability with age, so 'if its open might as well' can help the long term survivability of the hardware. The hardware, no matter how good, wont survive with bad software, so make sure to get that right.
