Injector’s pintle cap fell into the intake manifold

While replacing gaskets on my ix, I also decided to serviced the injectors with those kits sold by Injector-rehab.com After runing the engine I noticed one of them leaking, so I decided to upgrade all injectors with Bosch’s Gen2.

The thing is that when I separated the fuel rail from the air intake manifold, the pintle cap from four injectors separated from the injectors and stayed in the manifold. Eventually they just felt inside the manifold. I wonder if they were of questionable quality.

Have you run into a similar situation, and how did you removed those caps from the air intake. I don’t mind removing the intake but I’m also looking for a creative solution.

    Here’s the pintle cap I bought: http://injector-rehab.com/shop/BMW-F...arge-Hole.html

    Thanks

A flex claw tool grabber or a small tygon hose taped to the end of a vacuum.

I blow them through the exhaust by using high engine revs...

I have seen them slightly bend valves :/

One tine had one fall off and used two shop vacs. One blowing in the exhaust, one sucking through the TB and it came out.

I ended up using a tygon 1/2” hose taped to my shop vacum. Suction wasn’t that strong but with care and patience it held the pintle cap all the way through the injector hole. Once I set-up the hose, it took me about 40 minutes to get all four caps out.

I inspected the caps and found that the rib inside is too narrow and the diameter it creates is not enough to make a tight fit with the injector. It was very easy to remove each cap with my fingers.

          Thanks for your replies.

I had this happen before, I ended up loosening all the intake manifold fasteners and pulling the manifold back slightly to finally get it out. Same issue as you, the pintle caps weren't a tight enough fit on the injector and it un clipped itself upon removal.

As far as the aftermarket pintle caps, I have yet to find a a product that holds like the OEM units. When rebuilding injectors, I actually swap over to the regular hat style for this very reason.
