so when you remove the m42 do you need any exhaust gaskets? also any tricks to pulling the motor out? i don't have the car near me to look at sense im at school so im asking the people that know lol. thanks

Hmmm- well, it depends. If you leave the exhaust manifold on, then the downpipe gasket
for sure.
Probably heater hoses and rad hoses, just because they ought to be done, and
the heater in particular's a bitch if you try to do it on its own, but easier if you're
pulling things apart.
Engine mounts often are discovered to be goo, not rubber.
I usually do the clutch, simply 'cause I'd rather not do it again later- unless it's
already been done recently.
Air filter, oil filter, just because. A fuel filter too, just because.
Fuel line, because fuel fires just suck. And some clamps for them.
Oh, an intake boot, since they're usually about done anyway, and the new
motor mounts sit higher and crack the old ones that are formed to the lower engine height...
And then anything else you need when you get it apart and discover you
have 2 bad ones (DISA valves on E36's, but you don't have one of those)
That's what I got.
And I'm sure I'm missing something.
