My fuel tank breather hardline is extremely rusted. Enough so that you can smell gas when you work near it.
I'm going to be running a motor swap with aftermarket engine management, so my question is would it be safe to have a short breather line coming off of the tank vented somewhere nearby? On my old M20 with MS I just had a line with a filter on it tucked away in the engine bay, but would it be dangerous to vent right near the tank? I was thinking of just having a hose loose around the tank with a filter on it so nothing makes its way into the hose.
It just doesn't seem worthwhile to get a new hardline and route it to the engine bay just to have it vent to atmosphere.
Thanks,
Matt
