    Dash flock accomplished!

For the many of you who are bored with my build thread (or never looked at it in the first place), figured I'd share this seperately since I've only seen a few people who have DIY'd it. Because this is a $25, totally Grassroots "mod" that can be done on a beat-up old car's crappy dash, and comes out looking (if not great), at least "good." BTW, this is with the basic Don-Jur kit.

more substantial writeup in the main thread:

I was thinking about doing this, lots of the rally subie guys do it, saw it in a thread at rs25 a while back. Nice to see it on an e30 dash, how is the color under the sun?

I would have used a much darker color, but nice job.

seeing as it's night here and I just finished it, can't tell you right now. ;)

Should have it back in the car by the end of the weekend and will take some more pics out in the sunlight (if we get any sunlight this lousy weekend)

I was tempted to do a cooler color like dark red or something, but the gray is probably best for this car, since it's for rallycross and will have dust and dirt on everything...so the gray shouldn't show it as much as a dark color.

see my post above this. If it was on my regular DD car or a paved-surface track car, I would have done black.

it's dark gray. Looks lighter in the pics than in person.

the color was picked to match my rear "parcel shelf." Everything else in the interior is black or black metal.

That's very nicely done man, I like that a lot! The dash also looks great.

Wow...better than 99.99% of the DIY crap I see on here...nice!

Please get yourself a cargo net to replace the bungees.

If you have any flocking left, can I beg a favor? Would you squirt it on something and spray some matte black over it then take a pic or three? Just a few square inches would do just fine.

Hell, I wish I had a cargo net laying around, I would send it to you.

                    nice job!

I'll give the matte black a try in the next week. You can order it in other colors though, FYI. Not sure how the gray will come out spraypainted.

lol....yeah, the bungees are just there to keep the tie-downs from rattling around when driving. Once I find an appropriate sized net I'll get it (also plan to have a hanging net for the "seatback" area, just to put little stuff in. The three I have around the garage are all not good sizes. Most of the time I'll use straps anyhow. That shelf was made specifically to make it easy to carry a set of track or rallycross wheels.

My idea on the spray paint over flocking is to see how the texture changes, see if it can be a more "satin" finish than can be achieved in flocking.

ah, ok. Well, I'll give it a try. Though I think the closest thing I have is semi-flat black spray enamel.
