    Pistons for 2.7L + 885 head?

    Hello,

I can snatch a new set of these pistons for a real good price.

    Genuine BMW Piston 0.50mm Oversize. Call (310)626-8765. May Qualify For FREE SHIPPING. Parts# 11 25 1 735 758 11-25-1-735-758 11.25.1.735.758 11251735758. 525i.

I have a 1985 2.7L short block that i want to rebuild and will have it honed to the 84.5mm bore. I will be running with a 885 head.

Are these pistons going to work right out of the box?

are they ideal for a turbo?

What length rods should i use?

    Estimated compression ratio?

    Thanks,

    Chuck

Just find a good used eta bottom end

If you use your ETA 130 mm rods, you will need to cut 2 mm off the block to get back to stock deck height with the "I" pistons. This should leave you with about 9.5 to 1 compression based on the longer stroke.

I'd only do that for a NA engine

          ways to go

I want new pistons and a nice straight wall. Why? I had an employee "build" my existing bottom using used super eta pistons, new rings and the original bore which looked good. I have poor uneven compression (105 -130) and a little blow by :(

Actually, the bottom end that i have is pretty good but don't want to go back to a lot of work and end up with a marginal engine.

So, would the pistons i am looking at be a good way to go?

I think Digger is suggesting that 9.5 to 1 compression is too high for a typical e30 turbo, and if you're not going to use the "i" pistons at the right clearance to the head, you might as well use 'e' pistons... in a stock "e" bottom end. Hence the recommendation. Your super eta is 8.5 to 1, so maybe just a re-hone and new rings would be a good option.

not really anything to do with compression, but if you are paying decent $$$ for new cast pistons and full machine work to end up still a budget build it doesn't make that much sense IMO as you start to get into territory where custom pistons while more $$$ they start to bring much better benefits for not an obscene amount more...

if a NA engine i say go for it if the pistons are cheap enough
