I grew up in Portland, OR. Overall, I think Oregon has a lot to offer and a good quality of life. The cost of living is ever increasing - however, living in Seattle these past four years and spending a decent chunk of time in the DC metro area I find it is still quite affordable. Seattle, in comparison to Portland is ridiculous in my opinion.

The local government in Oregon leaves a lot to be desired, however they look like saints in comparison to Seattle.

For most any major big retail purchase in my life I almost always order to a friends house in Portland or pickup in-store in Portland. At 10% sales tax here in WA it begins to add up + I get to see old friends.

Back on point, a bicycle tax is ridiculous

I lived in Eugene as a kid and spent plenty of time in Portland. If I were to move back to Oregon which I have talked about from time to time, it would be southern Oregon. Medford or Grant's pass area.

You guys should come live in BC Canada for a year.
It'll make your taxes seem like a joke by comparison!
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

Hell no!!! Beer is expensive and you can't roll to just any corner store to buy it.

Not all states in the US allow you to buy booze from any corner store, FYI.

I know. And I don't live there so it doesn't affect me.

                  that's a sales tax.
                  Fair point.

But a use tax isn't necessarily yearly.

Gas tax, turnpikes, etc. You pay for them as you use them.

it seems like you need to take a second and google what 'use tax' is before posting any more on this subject.

                      it's an excise tax.

I just want to pump my own gas.

The problem with Oregon is the same problem in Illinois: One giant city fucks it up for the rest of the state.

They let you pump your own in Oregon at most places if you ask. Though when I'm in the Suzuki I really don't give a fuck, its really hard to fuck up filling up the truck and putting the cap back on.

Its just weird. NJ and OR, only places that do that.

Its really just a way to add more minimum wage jobs out there. If you think about it most gas stations only have 1-2 people ever at them otherwise. I notice Oregon seems to have 4+
