I have a suggestion for new rules for the Wheels & Tires classified sub-forum for the site moderators to consider.
Proposal:
Wheel(s) for sale listings must include whether wheel(s) are bent or straight and wheel(s) advertised as straight must include radial and lateral runout measurements for each wheel that are within BMW’s permissible runout range. If runout measurements are not available then the wheel(s) must be advertised as bent and there cannot be any claims about the wheel(s) being straight. Runout measurements are optional for wheels advertised as bent.
Why I making this proposal:
-Implementing these proposed rules will help prevent disputes between buyers and sellers.
-Implementing these proposed rules will help prevent sellers from selling bent wheels as straight.
-Implementing these proposed rules will help sellers and buyers know whether the wheels are bent or straight.
-Implementing these proposed rules will help buyers make an informed decision about purchasing wheels they cannot view in person.
Proposal details:
No claims may be made about the wheel(s) being straight without accompanying runout measurements.
If no runout measurements are available the following descriptions are acceptable:
-Wheels are bent
-Wheels may be bent
-Wheels might be bent
-Wheels are probably bent
If no runout measurements are available the following descriptions are not acceptable:
-Wheels are straight
-Wheels may be straight
-Wheels are probably straight
-Wheels are most likely straight
-Wheels are straight as far as I know
-Wheels are straight according to my mechanic (tire installer, or someone else)
If the wheels do not have tires mounted then the wheel runout measurements must be taken.
If the wheels have tires mounted then the runout for tire on wheel measurements must be taken.
