Greg is a straightforward seller that I do business with often, and will continue to do so.

He knows his shit. Good guy.

                    Sorry to hear.

But, this isn't anything that has sprung up in the past 24 hours. It's been on going.

What happened none the less? Never wished him ill will or intent, as I've told him numerous times.

Damnit. That blows chunks of hairy donkey balls. I hope he's alright and just more of a scary moment than anything else.

Well, Greg thinks I owe him at this point so, I'll make what I've tried to keep civil, public. I want to be clear, I wouldn't have ANY complaints had Greg NOT misrepresented this Engine. It has nothing to do with the cost and more about him not being straightforward, up front and stepping up and giving the parts I paid for.

                          The deal:
S50 Swap Package ("everything you need for the swap")
                          - 132xxx mile '94 S50B30 Motor
-ECU w/DINAN chip, harness, mount arms
                          -24v swap Adapter
                          -ZF320 Trans
                          -Driveline needed to run ZF
                          -S3.46
                          -"Pristine" Heated Leather Seats

                          Price: $4,550 total

I sourced the 525i pan, dip stick, return. The condition of this motor by his words where: "I've gone through it. It's solid. Runs great. I'd use it but I can't figure out how to drive two cars at once..." There's A LOT of communication where he assured me the motor was solid and he'd "been inside of it", "checked it over", "runs great", "easy miles", etc, etc... when I went to go look at the motor and car it was in, he'd already half disassembled the car and removed coolant and oil from it. Told me I could "hear it run and drive the car". Turns out I could only "hear it run" for about 3 minutes. I took his good reputation in consideration and went forward. When I went to drop the car off at his "shop" (read: Parent's house), I told him if there was ANYTHING else this motor needed, I would bag out and just find myself an m20. ANYTHING at all. He assured me it would be taken care of and everything would be just fine. It's a solid motor.

For the installation labor which he told me was $1,300, I traded him a $1,500 4 door '88 325i and INFORMED HIM OF EVERY ISSUE IT HAD. He accepted and we moved cars around. He looked it over when I dropped it off and said he had friends who didn't care what it looked like and he would resell it for $1,500 or so.

Upon picking the car up "finished", he let me know it wasn't running the best due to bad gas. Ran three tanks of premium through it and it didn't improve. The brake pedal was squishy, it threw a knock sensor code, the S3.46 screamed like a banshee. I brought it back too him 3 weeks later. He went through a few things, removed the DINAN chip, gave me a stock one and told me he would swap out the S3.46 for an S2.93 he had "laying around". Not what I paid for. At this point in my research I ran across a common issue with pre-10/95 M3's: Soft Valve retainers. I mentioned this. His response: "Oh yeah, I was worried about that. You should definitely get those done..." Hrm.

An already long story short, 2 months and a handful of days later I blow a head gasket. I contact him to let him know and by no means did I hold him responsible. Shit breaks. I know this. When I called him he offered no help. In fact all he said was, "That sucks, man. You have the worst luck!". I start disassembly and what do my eye's find? 2 cracked retainers. I ask him again why these where not addressed when he claimed that the engine was solid. His response: "Listen, you knew this engine had been raped, Chris. I figured if anything was going to break it would have already and been replaced." Not what I paid for in the slightest. On top of that, the VANOS was nearly shot. Also not what I paid for... I told him on the phone that I was going to have to dump another (conservative) $550.00 into the head to get it running again and after only ~3 months and felt that for what I ended up with (no S3.46, no DINAN chip, nearly grenaded engine and a rattle can VANOS unit AND no Adapter. He hard wired everything in...) there should be a little compensation in the price difference of the parts. He told me all I would get would be him coming down and helping me put the head back on because I am apparently too stupid to figure it out - "I'll come down, out of my way and help you put the cams in and time the car. Listen Chris, it's a hard process and you'll just fuck it up if you do it on your own..."

I shoot Greg another message about that not being totally kosher. He that night or the next sends me $247.74 for the cost of the retainers, cam locks and VANOS timing tools needed to complete the job. I thank him and go about my head rebuild. Fast forward 2 weeks and she's up and running. I'm a happy camper but scratching my head about the cooling system and several of the sensors under the intake. I shoot him a text asking for any pointers on bleeding the system.

His response: "Don't contact me anymore. We are not cool after the valve retainer deal. You're on your own from here on out..."
I reply: "Ah, got'cha. Just send me the diff and DINAN chip then. Thanks"

No response. All I've gotten from Greg as I told him I want to keep this in either PM or E-mail is that he feels I owe him the "$250.00" he sent me for the retainers because the '88 4 door needs work. Which I informed him of every single problem I knew about prior as I wanted us both to be happy with this deal.

Also, Greg sold the G260 trans and whatever else came out of my car without my permission or compensation.

So, since I'm over $6,000 into what is was for all intents and purposes a "junkyard" S50 and under the urging of several other board members to post my experience with Greg, here it is. I did not get everything that was agreed upon and trying to get the parts Greg owe's me looks like it's not going to happen. His attitude in general is shitty and uncalled for. Buy parts from Greg. They look great. Don't let him touch your motor or do ANY engine/trans/suspension work IMO... he didn't even bleed the brakes well enough for them to be safe. On my drive up to his shop to pay him the $200 extra on the "final bill", one of my shocks came undone on I-5 North at 65mph. When he was supposed to be there, he wasn't and I had to gimp my car home from North Seattle to Tacoma without one entire rear shock attached. He didn't tighten all of the bolts...

I'm sure there's things I missed along the way and Greg can tell his side of it. As far as I'm concerned I got screwed and that's alright as long as no one else get's boned by him and his "this is just the way it is" attitude. I'm already not the only one but, that's for other's to tell.

I will respond in do time with my side.
but one side note to chirs this is your opportunity to be upfront and step up and take any responsibly for actions that you took that put you in this position.

I also take great offence to this as many people know me and more over know I am not even capable of this.

Really? What steps did I take exactly?

I've been up front. The car I traded you, you looked at. I told you if it's not up to snuff, I'll put it back on the trailer and go from there.

What else is there exactly that you think I should be up front about? How about valve retainers which you should have mentioned. Instead, after the swap and money had traded hands you told me I should really get those changed out. What's that about?

Here's the thing, I never asked for anything other than my parts. Then you respond with I owe YOU $250? Heh.
