    E30 Rust Restoration Around NYC

Looks great, drives great, but has rust hidden beneath. Tourings are so hard to come by so I have to try and save it.

So far, what I know is is the rear spring perches are GONE.I also had a dead pedal last year, but now it's mush. I still weekend drive it as-is, but I know my days are numbered.

Would like to get someone that knows E30s, specifically regarding new spring perch fabrication or welding in ones from a donor car? Would also need to check extent of rust elsewhere and fix while we're at it.

Local recommendations appreciated, and any thoughts from experience, thanks.

damn that stinks. I would 100% make sure a reputable shop gets this done, unless someone is very meticulous and skilled. good luck man. Shops i know that are reputable, but not sure if they do this kind of work:

    Guten Parts
    OMG

    good luck

Ask on the NJ BMW CCA forum also (you do not need to be a CCA member to create a login); those guys are very well-connected and will point you in the right direction. (There's a highly regarded shop in PA but I forget the name.)

Thanks, I've actually been in touch with both guys.

Levent @ Guten has been very helpful — he pointed me to Convenience Collision in Bangor, PA and I've reached out.

Denis @ OMG has worked on my car 1st-hand and is a great guy to work with in general - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for anyone's mechanic needs but does not handle rust-repair.

Still open to any other suggestions — I agree, it should be an E30 specialist.

          Thanks.

Cool, will do. Also found a place in NJ called Tyspeed that looks cool... if anyone has had any experience there that would be helpful too. Thanks.

That's the one I was thinking about. My guess is it won't be cheap, but having some experience with having body work done, my humble recommendation would be to pay more to have it done right the first time than to attempt to do it on a budget and have regrets later.

mxtx Did you ever find a shop to do your repair? How did everything turn out?

A shop near philly that did a ton of E30 rust repair was Copperhead Collision. Family owned and they all have E30s. I sent a customer there for a battery box repair and a paint refresh. They did awesome work and were priced right.

Thanks - Battery box repair is exactly what I mine needs along with some other minor stuff. Going to call and get an estimate for the work.

After posting, I was able to secure some floorpans from a donor E30.

Many say the sedan floors are same but I wanted to be extra sure so I went with donor Touring from UK.

Project was put on hold after I didn't have much luck finding anyone to help, however, as of last week I did find someone promising and the car is currently in their hands.

Hoping to have a real update soon.....

Let us know how it turns out. I called Copperhead Collision and they're no longer doing rust repair but they did refer me to a local guy in West Chester who does rust repair at his home. I'm sending him pics tomorrow of my battery box and rocker panel to see what he says.

That's a shame, they always did great work, and were surprisingly affordable.
