      instant-set JB Weld (the stuff that is good to go in 5 minutes, not 24 hours to cure), gasket maker, epoxy.

      Those three items saved my ass when doing my cross-country trip a few months ago.

              Make sure your all your fluid levels are topped off ie. coolant, oil, etc

                lug wrench
                check your air pressure in your tires as well as your spare.
                maybe a cell phone car charger.
                have your car battery tested at an auto parts store ( that could ruin your trip in the middle of no where if that takes a shit)

                liquids for the car and your self.
                a calculator and odometer gears that are in working condition to keep track of what kind of fuel mileage your getting.
                I like doing this on road trips because you can get good accurate highway only readings.
