    Good deal?

I saw this recently in a very small town near me. Craigslist ad.

"1987 BMW 535i 4door, automatic, sunroof, am/fm cd, leather. This car is in terrific condition inside and out, has not issues. It comes with 3 sets of tires and rims, aftermarket, studded snows and stock. This is a great little car and is ready for its forever home."

173,000, clean title, auto (this doesn't bug me as it would be more of a highway cruiser). Tan leather in good shape, one split on driver's seat.

Doesn't sound like they kept much for records, she just "fixed whatever needed fixing." Had it 5 years.

    $4000.

What says r3v? I have some cheap and rough 528e's in my neighborhood - same engine as my son's 325es in a heavier car. The 535is is just too much skirts & spoilers for that classic shape - makes it look heavy. An i is just right, even with an auto. Euro bumpers would make it perfect.

if it's not full of rust, and runs as well as advertised, yes, good deal.

The last thing I need right now is another 'project.' But I would gladly give up my Audi A4 for a classic DD.

What did those wheels come off of?

They look like e36 M3 contours, but no way they fit without a lot of spacing, etc. Unless they're reps with proper offset. E28s like around ET22. E36s like around ET41, IIRC

          I see, M Contour from E36? I'm finding 17x7.5 or 8.5.
How does that fit this car with any lowering?

There is no M Contour II, correct?

This is an M5 "Throwing Star?" Similar but not.

Are the M Contours tradeable for something more period in the 16" range?

            Ahh, could be these…

She did say "aftermarket…maybe she bought snows and rep wheels.

OEM M Contour looks like ET41.

OE from an e36 should be ET41. I had a set of those aftermarket ones, but they were 17s IIRC. Funnily enough they wouldn't fit my e36 with 50 aspect ratio snow tires (hit the strut tower), but fit my e46 perfect.

Yes, they're aftermarket wheels (no M badges).
If they bought snow tires, put it on a lift and check for rust.
