kid's parents have the money, but at least he's got the education to back it up. it's not like he went to UCSD, god forbid.

That's pretty fucking awesome, plus look at his cars. 2 E46 M3's, the E30, and a C230. His silver M3 with the peanut butter leather is gorgeous.
It's kind of a bummer they aren't swapping it into a nicer chassis though. That thing looks pretty beat and rusted. Are they doing body work on it? I'm only on the first page so far.

Ever since I saw the project I've been wanting to see it done. It's going to be incredible.

I'm by page 13 and they cleaned that thing up really well. I cannot believe they bought something this nice for $500.Erick Mahle | FullOpp Drift | YouTube

I'm by page 16 and I'm just amazed at the amount of resources this kid has.
I spent over an hour reading that thread.... by page 22 I'm just begging for more. He makes everything seem like it's so ridiculously easy.Last edited by Erick; 05-10-2006, 01:40 PM.Erick Mahle | FullOpp Drift | YouTube

Interesting project, but not really executed very well.
All he's doing is taking the entire electrical system from one chassis, ripping half of it out, and installing it in an E30.
Seems pointless and stupid. I really respect the one guy here who installed the complete OBDII-EWS system in his E30, and integrated it into factory harness's.
This method just seems halfassed.

i haven't read the whole thing, but what's halfassed?
impressive engineering. not exactly read all and try to research every single step (cuz hell... he's doing things that haven't been done or almost no one else has). he has a concept, attempts to do it, and then fixes issues as they arise (steering column not fitting).
I'd never get myself into a project like that, but hell, he probably really is enjoying the adventure.
mad props if he gets it all hooked up and wired and running...

Im not going to read it all but there are a few things that, judging by what I hear here, seem to be odd. Changing the body wiring seems overly complicated. There are a lot of emulators on the market for pulling off the newer OBD stuff while still keeping the control system. We replaced almost all of a friends OBD2 stuff with emulation to setup a turbo on it.
Then again it seems this guy has nearly an unlimited budget and time, its probably less about getting to the end as easily as possible than it is about doing something fairly original.Im now E30less.

It matches the engine, and if he wants to switch out all the wires, good for him.
I dont see how running an all new wiring harness is halfass at all.
Maybe ghetto-rigging and splicing into older, less reliable wiring would be better?
If I had the budget and the time for that project, I would probably almost everything the same way.
