89is Alpine Progress Thread: e30 Hibernation - e90 swap complete

Welcome to the slow, boring build thread that will document my progress on my 89 Alpine.

Currently I have a 90is Bronzit and an 89is Alpine. Bronzit will be up for sale soon once I sort a few things out.

Over the past 3 years I had been collecting parts for the Bronzit, but then stumbled across this Alpine on craigslist. I had to have it - even purchased it on my wife's birthday (9/8/2016) haha. I have been sharing some pics on R3v FB due to ease, but decided to create a thread for documentation and feedback.

I'll let the pictures do the talking:

First day or two of ownership - IS lip on with splitter

    Red tails

Now on to the good stuff..

All the parts I have been collecting - Nasieg 5-Lug, Ground Control Coilovers, m3 Brake calipers, z4 hubs, e46 purple tag rack, all new bushings, stainless steel brake lines, motorsport hardware lugs, Chase bays power steering line, Condor steering coupler, bearings, etc, etc, etc ($$$)

    Progress pics:

    Staggered Style 32 junkyard steal

Test fitting wheels (already media blasted)

    Rear coming out

    Empty Rear

Everyone knows this already, but do not use non-impact rated tools for an impact gun. This sheared off and went through my glove into my finger. I have a pretty gnarly scar from it.

Mating the e46 dust shield to the e30 inner for the rear

Painted up - Smeared JB Weld around the seam

Rear ready to go back in - fully reinforced with Garagisitic parts and painted

Front ready - reinforced with e46 rack and 21mm vert sway bar

    Coils in

    Rear is in

    Garage War zone

Fronts on - waiting on reman axles

    Sitting Pretty

Wife and I bought an Explorer (her vehicle)

    ...and a new house.

As of today here is what the Alpine looks like!

I still need to button up a few things:
Rear needs to be rolled (roller i just ordered from amazon is a piece. Weld broke off the securing nut..so TBD until I re-weld it)

Fix power steering leak - can't seem to get a wrench in there to tighten the -AN fitting on the chase bay's line.

Re-bleed the brakes - put in a new 25mm master cylinder and ordered a power bleeder. Just need time to do it.

    Future plans
M30b35 is sitting on the stand waiting to be torn down swapped.
5-speed swap at the same time
Exterior painting and touch-ups - IS side skirts, Mtech 2 front valence/splitter, lots of SEM black
Replace sunroof (Rust) - already have it - picked it up from a local guy
Heated Seats - pulled the harness and switches from the yard yesterday
    ETC
    ETC
    ETC

    More to come!

Started out promising, but couldn't make it past those giant pictures. Resize your pictures, so everyone else can enjoy your build thread, too!

              Rear: 17x9 et26 - 215/40

They were steal from the junkyard at 21.99 a piece. I media blasted them, painted the inner barrel satin black and the faces with Duplicolor Graphite.

Tires have a bit more stretch than I like, but I still think it looks rad. Going to lower the car a bit more once I get the fenders rolled.

                      Weekend Update

Well the weekend came and went, but I was able to knock a few things off my to-do list for the Alpine.

                      Replaced the hood strut

                      New plastic lock cylinder trim

Rolled the rear fenders. Tool is absolute shit, but got the job done. Lowered it a few inches while I was in there.

                      Rear fitment

                      Front fitment

                      New Ride height

Bled the brakes with my new Motive power bleeder

Tried to fix the High pressue Power Steering leak. I had to remove the resevoir to rack line to access the -AN fitting for the chase bays line. I was able to tighten it down a bit more..time will tell..

New battery. Bronzit battery died...so the Alpine gets the new Bosch and Bronzit gets the older Interstate.

                      Washed up and sitting pretty

Sunroof Panel sitting and waiting for me to order new gaskets and give it a fresh coat of paint.

I need to get the Alpine inspected this week..it ran out in September. I had been delaying due to the tires hitting the rear fender wells and peeling away like a string cheese. Everything should pass hopefully...

My registration came due, so I re-upped with a custom plate. I'll probably keep it for a year then toss some Antique plates on.
