    Replacing expansion valve

    Hello,

The PO of my iX replaced the hoses with barrier hoses, new o-rings, etc, except then the compressor went bad.

I am now preparing to replace the compressor, drier, and expansion valve and retain the original r12. I already have a vacuum pump, manifold gauges, and the r12.

My question is, I can only find replacement expansion valves for r134. Do I specifically need the r12 expansion valve? I feel like I've searched everywhere.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

The expansion valve is specific to the refrigerant. I'm not sure what compressor you plan to buy but r134 is $5/can, a PF condenser is $100 and a new compressor is about $200.

Most new a/c components you buy today are R134a specific and no longer support R12. If you are going through the trouble of replacing the compressor, then i really recommend that you do the R134a conversion properly. That means a new parallel flow condenser, all new o-rings and you will be replacing the expansion valve and the receiver/drier anyways (and a new dual pressure switch).

Can you be kind enough to link some OE compressor part numbers? the cheapest compressor i found new here in Germany is from Lucas (model ACP653) to replace the Seiko-Seiki models for €300+ and a 30+ day order time.
