Chemically cleaned so there's no residue inside the oil baffle, blasted with aluminum oxide, cleaned again, pre-baked to out-gas, then coated. Same process I have been using for the last 11-12yr, never had any issues (use same media/process on cylinder heads too).

Problem with using glass or any other lighter media is the pores of the metal to be coated actually get peened closed and the finish soon chips off. When doing manifolds, the ports get plugged shut with craft paper wads, and the chemical cleaning cleans the inside/bottom of the covers really well, so there's no worry about heavy blasting those areas.
A cover I coated in 2007 or 8 ended up going on the Grassroots Challenge turbo wide body e30 (09?), then went on another turbo m20 that we put in a 2002 for 2010, then that motor was pulled, converted back to NA and put in a Spec e30 that raced up until 2017 when the car was totaled in a wreck - then that motor was put in another Spec e30 until I built an engine for the owner in which he did a different color to match the car livery (orange paint instead of red powder). The core motor that came out with the red cover on it then was sold to yet another Spec car, and raced for 2 more years before recently going up on the market. 2 different motors and 10(?) years in service, pretty sure something would have come up by now. ;)
I had no issues putting them (and intakes) on my own car back in about 09(?)...
EDIT: Installed in my car in 2010...
The red cover that was done previously.Last edited by ForcedFirebird; 06-27-2019, 03:49 PM.

Thanks!
Hit me up when ready. I still have several bare covers, and it seems there's a lot of interest for manifolds too, so will likely pick up some more powder.
So much easier to do in batches, there's a lot of time involved for little return in coating since it's not a main focus at the shop.
