    My 1987 Burgondrot 325E Project Daily/AutoX/Track

This is gonna be a long term project.

    1987 325E Burgondrot

    5/14/18
I picked up the car in early 2016 and finally started working on it in April 2018 with the help of a local shop. I picked up the project in pieces from a friend and decided to take over the project. He had previously picked it up from a person that drifted the car so it's got mismatched pieces such as a late model rear bumper. It came with literally an exhaust that was made form parts purchased from a hardware store i.e. a galvanazied pipe welded to the flange. pretty much straight piped. It also came with 2 sets of wheels, fake BBS wheels and TR Motor sport wheels. Currently it sits on racelands and will soon be replaced with KWV3's with stiffer spring upgrade.

So today we put the motor back in. Wish I invested in an engine hoist leveler. Good to hours with the help of my friend Paul who was the previous owner. I decided to take over his project.

Got the flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate mounted, transmission mounted and now hoisted.

Biggest pain in the but to line up motor mounts to subframe. My plans for this car is to paint it black so I'll be taking the motor out eventually to paint the bay black. (We put in the motor so we could easily transport this to my house.)

Installed a Braille light weight battery, some Recaros, and finally got it started. Zimmermann rotors, RE71R tires, and VDO gauges came in. Still waiting on PFC 08 pads which should arrive Monday.
Current issues: the check engine light does not come on when the key is in and initially starts. Blower motor and blower motor resistor needs replacing as the fan blades are messed up.

PFC 08 pads installed today. TE37 Sonic 16x8 et25 arrived and tires will be mounted tomorrow. Now all that's left is to install the blower motor and resistor, connect moon roof, and pass smog.

This past week had me sweating bullets right before Lone Pine Time Trials. Thanks to a local shop, Creative Auto for to helping me put my E30 together is such short notice.

We pretty much wrapped it up at 4AM Friday and the plan was to leave for Lone Pine at 9AM. Well at around 4AM as we were loading it onto the trailer, the exhaust snagged and cause the motor to pull back and cause the pan to hit the steering rack which on turn cracked the oil pan. But hope was not lost! JB weld was the cure and I was able to race it at Lone Pine with no leaks! Had a blast. It’s a definitely a work in progress.

Blew my head gasket while I was at the drive thru yesterday. Managed to get it onto my driveway as the car died. Checked the dipstick and my oil looks like a latte. RIP.

                        Now options.

Building the M20 ETA block and mating it with an 885 head and cammed for a turbo set up. Looking into KA Motors Canyon Crusher with 6262. My goal with the car is a lot of street driving like to work and home because I love the car that much. But it will be heavily focused on track days such as the road course and a few autox. I am not really interested in classing the car at autox maybe SM in SCCA since I still have a full interior or classing at the track since it will mainly be for HPDE. I am also wanting longevity which is why I am leaning towards the OEM spec pistons vs Forge pistons. I've also talked to Bimmerheads yesterday and he told me Mahle pistons have great longevity about as great as OEM so I may go that route with the 2.9.

Another option is S52 swap but it seems as it will go way over my budget if I were to rebuild it. I wouldn't know the true conditione of a used 20 year old motor vs a freshly rebuit motor. Also S52 parts cost a whole lot more than M20 parts. Forced induction is an idea here too.
