    E30 carpet dye comparison

I have a water leak I can't track down so I'll be pulling the carpet to try and find it. While it's out I'm going to give it a good cleaning and might dye it, it's a light grey carpet. I have black door cards and soon to be black/Mtech seats (black rain). A black headliner on the way and black Motorsport floor matts. What I'm afraid of is my car looking like a black whole.

Can anyone post pics of their black(gloss or satin) VHT carpets and charcoal VHT carpets to compare the two.

I think the charcoal contrast will look good but from what I've seen it seems to be a very light shade of "charcoal".

I don't have any pictures but I just sold a 1982 W126 Mercedes that was ALL black except the same charcoal greyish carpets. I removed the carpet and dyed them black with Duplicolor and I liked the darker carpets much better. This car had black seats, black door panels, black dash, black rear parcel shelf, black everything except the headliner and I loved it.

    But, to each their own...

Well I dyed it, 5 cans of VHT satin black. I'm happy with the results could probably use 1 more can.

The lighting really messes with the color in the photos.

Texture is fine, brush out every layer.

I dyed mine using SEM fabric and vinyl paint/dye and was very happy with the results.

My interior color code is Indigo Blue. In the one pick you can see the difference in the before and after.

I have also used Duplicolor on black carpets and was happy with that as well,

There is spray dye for clothes that you can buy at an art store. The easiest way to dye the carpet is to use Rit Dye (do a Google search on how much), hot water, garbage bag and garbage can.

No this is a thread on carpet dye. Get a couple cans and make your carpet black.
