    Looking for Suspension Suggestions

    Hi,

I have a 1992 e30 Convertible- 325i- with a suspension that I am looking to refresh. Car has 77K miles on it and its original. I am adding 15 inch euroweaves and am concerned about making the suspension too harsh or choppy for a convertible e30 so I am leaning toward a stock type setup. Anyone add a sway bar to theirs?

    Thanks in advance

    I would first consider:

    205/55/15 summer tires
    New bushings all around
14.5 mm rear sway bar from an ix or M3
    E36 or E46 steering rack
    X brace

    After that I would consider:

H&R sport or OE plus springs or similar
    Koni struts/shocks

maybe slightly larger adjustable sway bars like 22/16

    * could also add fixed camber plates such as IE (1.25°) or Turner (.75°) ( both of these add about 11 mm stack height) or for more money Ground Control adjustable "touring" strut mounts (drops front about 20 mm)

If you want the car lowered, you're probably gonna miss the comfy stock ride. I have HR sport / Bilstein sport set up / new bushings / with garagistic x brace and its a pretty comfy ride and not too low for my taste.

Here is an old pic with the set up / euroweaves

This thread is relevant to my interests.

I have an x-brace that was bought second hand without the hardware, does it normally come with longer bolts for the brackets/steering rack connections? Did you refresh the motor mounts at the same time?

The X brace I got from Mason engineering had longer hardened bolts supplied with it. I don't know what is included with other brands.

I didn't refresh my motor mounts at the same time because they were replaced at an earlier time and were still in good shape. I would replace them if they don't appear to be in good shape.

I just installed Eibach 318i Cabrio 30mm lowering springs and Bilstein B4's. I have had cars with tougher springs and B6's but since it's a vert I wanted it to keep good and comfortable handling settings. I may or may not uprate the sways with Eibach too. I really enjoy the way it drives and handles now. There really is no substitute for Bilstein gas dampers I think.

I like my 92 on Bilstein HD same valving as sports but an inch more of travel with E30 M3 springs. Gave it a not drastic drop and was comfortable for me. Add an X brace to add some rigidity.

Looks good! Are the shocks bottoming out at all over bumps? I always thought that B4s could not be used with lowering springs.

                Thanks, Cory

They can as long as the lowering is modest.
