did this yesterday, easy, but annoying and time consuming. took a little less than 2 hours. I removed the OBC and the harness and light stalk out of the parts car as well, so it made installation easier becuase i knew how everything went together.
Parts Needed:
-9-button OBC (make sure all lights work before final instalation of it, pain in the ass to change later)
-full harness, follow it everywhere and unplug everything, dont cut anything.
-light stalk with OBC switch in it.
-code box (i didnt use this, but if you want it, get it)
Procedure:
-drop the glove box
-remove all trim pieces to access back of HVAC panel
-slide out 6 button OBC
-remove FULL knee bolster (including the metal part on airbag cars)
-remove steering wheel and column covers
-remove cluster
-follow the 6 button OBC harness around and unplug all connections and remove harness
-remove light stalk and all wiring associated
-install new light stalk and re plug in wiring (there will be one blue plug extra, its for the new obc harness)
-run the new harness (2 plugs to the gong, 1 to the code box, 1 to the stalk, 1 behind the cluster, 1 into the 9 button OBC (hang it out the hole, dont install the OBC yet (checking the lights and functionality), then there are 2 more plugs that plugged into plugs near the ECU in the parts car, i didnt see any of those plugs in my car, so i left those 2 unplugged.
-Start your car, check if the obc works
-If everything works, attach the OBC with the 4 screws from behing in the HVAC panel, this is one of the hardest parts. its really hard to reach.
-Use the manual and set all your options in the new OBC
-Put everything back together
-enjoy
overall, definately worth it, i only paid $20 and some parts i had laying around, i dont really know how much i would pay, you dont really need it, but once you have it, its definately cool to see.
