Crank Position Sensor - Resistance Spec

Bentley says it's supposed to be around 540ohms.

I've gotten two brand new ones so far that have a reading of 900ohms on the money.

Did some research and saw a few times where people mention it being a misprint in the Bentley and even one guy says he even spoke with bavauto and they told him the same thing.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I will state that the one in my daily driven iX is reading out at 540ohms.

Well, you don't say what car this is. An OE or OEM CPS for an M20B25 will ohm out at about 540 ohms and that resistance will change as you bring a ferrous object to the face of the sensor. I dunno about the those for an M20B27 (ETA).
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

The frustrating thing about reluctive sensors is that the ECU is looking for a certain minimum
voltage from them. The impedance (resistance at dc) does matter somewhat for power
transfer, BUT if they generate the voltage the way the ECU wants, they will usually work.

What's so frustrating is that they will USUALLY work, but every so often you can trace
a failure to them being wrong, especially if they're false- triggering from noise or ringing.
And it's never the sort of thing that shows up easily...

I've gone through this with several different types of these sensors, in various situations,
and if there's no way to really look at what the interpretive circuitry's doing with the
signal, it gets frustrating really quickly.

(Did I mention that I find 'em frustrating? Both personally and professionally???)

So really, that's a lotta words to say 'it'll probably work'

        I hear you Toby.

The CPS I ordered was for a 90 BMW 325i - both times.

But was it an OE or OEM part?

The one i ordered from the dealer came in a different packaging. Only paid 70$ for it. I think that is an OE.

                FYI "Vemo" is not OEM.

From what I read when I was getting wacky readings on mine, was that the non-OEM ones (Vemo and the like on Amazon/Rock Auto) have more problems and most of the time don't work correctly. It sounds like OEM is the only way to go. I bit the bullet and bought the OEM one for around $80 and fixed my random hot start (and sometimes misfiring issues) on my '89 m20.

I resurrect this three cause my 91 325ix won't start. Cps read 850 ohms at the dme. Is there an adjustment to be made or a new one is only option?
