I make an effort to report them when I'm online, but the cooldown timer on the report system gets very annoying after a few so I just give up.

^This. I know a lot of the mods actually live out side of their e30s (if you can call that living) so I try to report the spam for them, but it takes forever to report a page full of spam.

Again to clarify, it's not necessary to report the topics which are obviously spam. We catch 99% of those when we do our purges, which happen several times throughout the day. Reporting individual spam posts which are replies to real topics is helpful.

Having to see multiple spam posts in General may be a nuisance, but at least it's temporary.

                  This.

This forum requires that you wait 60 seconds between reporting posts. Please try again in 32 seconds.
I used to report more, but we just need a better spam "firewall" or something so they can't register as easily. It's gotten bad this year. I know they'll just find another way through, that's the problem with open forums, they always have this happen in waves. But I wonder what other if-equals-this safeguards could be put in place. Like asking visual questions, like what Google now does. "What picture contains a lake / water?" Stuff like that. I know it requires more work, but something like that could really help.

To report one just clicks the exlamation point button next to the online/offline indicator?

..yep, but you have wait 60 seconds between reporting them.

I try to report them if they stick around longer than a day.

Definitely report the ones buried in threads, main page stuff usually not.

+1 to the cooldown timer causing report abort. I don't want to wait for that shit.
