Great. Looks like I need a chrome window trim piece.

Question for the E30 parts specialists: Is dealer buttrape pricing my only option on this part (# 51131884451 and whatever the clamp part is)? Will the dealer even have this part given the age of the car?

Driver's front window trim disappeared off my car overnight. There is a chance that it blew off during some high-speed (120+ mph) fun earlier in the day and I never saw it until today, so I'm not bugging out about vandalism just yet. Since I'm relatively new to the E30 parts game, I'm just wondering how F'd in the A I am.

hahaha this has happened to 2 other E30 guys in state. They saw it come loose and held it down on the high way until they taped it down. I guess its only time until it happens to me...

I had no idea it was such a common issue at speed.

we have several sets, if BenM doesnt have one locally. Shipping is a pain with this, its like shipping a box of feathers... No weight but big box.

I was cruising my 89 325i a few years ago with a friend and heard "something" hit the side of the car and bounce down the highway behind us. I said what the F was that? We thought it was a piece of road debris. Come to find out the next day the driver side front piece of trim fell off!

Same thing happened to me about a year ago– about 1/4 mile from the BMW factory in Spartanburg. Still looking for one.

$40 for the piece for both sides, and the majority of the cost was shipping because the piece is so long, thin, and ultimately fragile. I will give them this - They knew how to do it. They packaged the trim with enough padding to survive a fall or two, but left it uncovered enough so that Fedex would be forced to treat it with the deference it deserved.

Or maybe we just got lucky, which is probably what really happened.

My only problem now is that the new piece does not match the rest of the trim on the car, which is in almost perfect shape, but at least I don't have anything missing from the car. And if anything, it's pushed me towards shadowlining with some decent urgency at this point, something I've admittedly been putting off. :/

So thank for all the responses, and thanks to gutenparts.com for being there to help me out!

Glad to help you out, and good to hear my paddle made it to you ok! >i think we just got lucky. Next set i sell will be wrapped in newspaper and duct (or duck) tape.

Wouldn't know what to use, but there's gotta be some sort of way to polish/shine up the trim. Maybe you could get it to match.

get some metal polish and use some elbow grease. unless the chrome has completely worn off, it should come back to life.
