    Seat Options

I've just about had it with my comfort seats. They look mint, but the driver's seat bottom frame was broken for awhile and has tweaked the seat back/the recline mechanisms. I think I've finally gotten the seat back straight by removing the recline shock, comforts only have a shock on one side so the seat was locking into position cockeyed because there's play in the whole setup, ugh.

Anyway I'm debating going to Walter from bimmerseat.com for a pair of sports, which will run me $1600, whew, or going with some new Recaro Specialists which are ~$1200 a piece, bigger whew.

I'm leery of running more 30 year old seats, even if they are refurbished, but I also would like my pearl beige interior to all match, and I'm afraid of losing my vertical height adjustments...any opinions?

I've previously been a Volvo guy and never even thought about seats because Volvo seats are ammaaaaazing.

I personally bought a few cheap sport seats (4 total) and made two completely refurbished seats. I paid $150 for the 4 seats and another $300 for the leather kit so I ended up spending a total of $500 and I gained the knowledge of rebuilding them again if anything should break on them.

With a bit of stuffing about you can put whatever seats you want in. Go to the wrecking yard and start looking and measuring. Finding something to match pearl beige is probably going to be your main challenge....

I personally put Mazda FD rx7 seats in mine:)

$150 for 4 seats? Man I feel ripped off by my $300 junkers. Oh well. My vinyl kit was $500, so I'll be $800 in, but I suppose $800 isn't bad either for refurbished sports.

Where did you get your kit?

I'm really glad you asked, I've vented about this on Facebook, but haven't complained on the forum yet.

I went with Auto Custom Leathers, and I cannot emphasize this enough: DO NOT buy seat covers from them!

Their communication was fast until I actually placed the order, then it slowed way down, actual turnaround time was super slow. And worst of all, the quality of work was objectively bad.

My center cushions are actually off with John Christy being redone right now!

Attached is one of the stitches from one of the center cushions, you'll see why I had an issue with the quality.

Sorry to hear that man. John Christy does he have a website?

His website appears to be dead for whatever reason, but his business is "ninestitch". You can find it on Facebook

                  What about the foam?
Did you install the 30-year-old foam?

I think the average foam age is 10 years, then it sags, the covers stretch too much and wear out in no time.

Anyone know if there's a drastic difference between sport seats out of a convertible compared to coupe. there is someone in my area selling a pair of seats in pretty good condition for 800$ cad, just the front seats. wondering if this is 1. worth it, 2. will it fit/clash with my base leather rear seats and 3. I have read that there is bad adjustability in the convertible sport seats please let me know as I may go see them this weekend.

I know this was posted a while and you've probably already made the decision by now, but my suggestion would be no. And what I actually mean, is no to buying a "great condition" original interior. No matter what that interior is on it's last legs, and is certainly not worth paying a premium for. I got a smoking deal ($400 for front and rear) on very nice condition seats but the moment I put them in the car and they started being sat on, they started to fall apart. I'm talking in a matter of months. Unless the car was garage kept it's entire life and never driven, that interior will die soon. I am however referring to cloth seats specifically, so your mileage may vary for leather/vinyl
