Alright lets start from the top..
I have swapped an m20b25 into my e21 but have kept the e21 m10's single mass flywheel. I also am using the transmission from the e30 318i, the getrag 240, as opposed to the getrag 260 usually behind the m20. Because the transmission is made for the 4 cyl e30 it sits at a 10 degree angle towards the driver in my car. Because I have the m10 flywheel, Ive taken the starter bendix gear from an m30 bmw and put it into the regualr m20 starter, a sort of franken-starter. The starter works, engages and spins, but when installed on the engine, even though I can here it working it isnt coming into contact with the flywheel. Ive removed it and checked and the notches on the flywheel are fine...
Do you guys think the problem is the starter? should I just try and m30 or an m10 one straight up?
Or do you think its because the bellhousing is at that 10 degree angle?
please any help would be great
also the transmission isnt 100% completely bolted up, need custom crossbar. But I dont think this matters because all the old bmws ive driven dont require you to press down the clutch or anything to start it. but please correct me if im wrong here haha
Thanks!
