    Stupid Questions

    Here they go.

What are good BOV's, wastegates and so forth. Where can I get quality parts to complete my turbo kit.

I am building on proturbo manifold with GT35 turbocharger.

I see a whole lot of Wastegates, and all that I see are 90 degree ones. Are there wastegates that have 180 degree pipe.

Can waste gates be mounted upside down or in different angles?

    What's a good size intercooler for e30?

Any more insight. I've searched, but decided to just get answers, and maybe some one will offer parts for sale, lol.

also, does any one make flanges for quick connect down pipes?

      downpipe quick-discos? like v-bands?

ATP prolly has the best for the price. their flanges are machined, versus cheaper stamped-steel ones.. and the bands are stainless.. really nice. I had them on my wrx.

Tial, in my opinion, are king of the hill. The action, longivity, precision, etc., are extremely good. For a low pressure/low-volume turbo (sub-15psi/under 40lb/min flow) I recommend a 38mm or close, for a BOV. I ran a GT32 turbo on my subaru, at 20psi, and needed a 46mm wastegate, and a 50mm BOV. the I used a 1.1bar spring in the EWG and a .8bar spring in the BOV.

You can mount both EWG and BOV in any direction you like/need. Just try to avoid having the outlets point upward, just to keep crap from falling in them, obviously.. Otherwise, however it fits, works.

dont forget, that if you stay with a metered-air setup (MAF), then BOVs can wreak havoc on the system, causing rich spikes during shifts, decels, idles, etc. Speed Density (MAP), however, is much more forgiving, and cares nothing about the VTA air.

      What's a good size intercooler for e30?
really depends on what you're doing, turbo-wise, and expected PSI levels.
I like to say "as big as will fit properly." a decent size is 24x12x3 with 3" in/outs.. run 2.5" hot-side piping, and 3" cold-side.. Thermodynamics are at play.

Injectors need attention.. stocks are too small (i think like 290cc?? ) Projected HP is what you'll need to target your injectors..
Example: my old turbo integra, with built 2L, 880cc injectors on a GT35, maxed IDCs at 440whp.. I had to step up to 1200s to reach the 500whp target.

The equation for injector sizing is as follows:
      Code:
      inj. size (lb/hr) x 80% IDC) / B.S.F.C. x 4
(BSFC for turbo car is usually .60-.65, can be as high as .70, NA cars are .45-.50, SC'd cars are .55-.60 [Brake Specific Fuel Consumption])

      So, say a 295cc injector = is inj. CC / 10.5
      295/10.5=28 lb/hr

      28 lb/hr x .8 IDC= 22.5

      22.5 / .60 = 37.5 hp per inj.

37.5 x 4 inj = 150hp, so a 295cc injector, at stock fuel pressure, will theoretically support 150hp. so if you're aiming for say, 300hp, you'll need at least a 600cc injector to stay safe. 575s will work, as well, but 600s will keep you safer ranged. Of course, add meth injection, and you can fudge these numbers. My Civic hatch with B18C swap and T3/T04E, fmic, 255lph pump, 450cc injectors, and 50/50 water/meth injection made 310whp @ 10psi at 12.5:1 AFRs, which is fine for the meth injection. no meth, pump only, 12.5:1 is WAY LEAN.. stay around the low-mid 11s, at most..

Did I go overboard a little?

For BOV's and WG's, genuine Tial is a sure bet. As much smack talking as there is on here, e30tech has an awesome FI section, and you can learn a ton by reading a bit over there. Oh and Corky Bell's Turbocharging book is good, if you don't know the basic important stuff about how turbos and the related systems work.

lol, have the book. Got few months ago at B&N.

I am going for 300hp. I am rebuilding the engine and getting custom pistons. I am planning to do this right the first time, in case one day I decide I need more.

SO, Tial it is. Also like stainless steel V-bands. Will have to get all flanges and gaskets.

          Good brand intercoolers? Downpipes?

I plan to run MS setup, but it will be a while until I get there.

          I have 2 sets of injectors, 24# and 40#.

vbands need no gaskets ;) thats another beauty of them.. (unless youre talking about other gaskets lol

            40lb/min * .8 / .6 = 53 hp/inj. 53 * 4 = 212.. a little shy of your goal..

brands of DPs? hmm. prolly be a custom one, anyway. My local muffler shop built my last one with 3" donuts/elbows that I supplied. I just took it home, and polished the SS pipe up and was stellar.

Intercoolers: there are so many out there, now.. I've installed a few of the ebay ones in the recent past, for people, and they are really nice.. Otherwise, you'll be looking at 4-600$ for a decent 'branded' one.. and that's the low side of the range.

I would get MS in first. These days, with computer control being affordable and well supported, there is no reason not to do it if you're going FI. Anything less is just asking for trouble. The swedes use stock parts and make crazy numbers because they tune and tune and tune and tune. And tune. It is the best defense against detonation; more important than all the fancy parts you can buy. If you want to do it right the first time, proper EMS should be at the top of your list.

and that is why m20 has 6 injectors.

                Seems reasonable.

lol. starting looking at Tial stuff, and they are sooo damn expensive, but i guess I can cheap my way through this project. i will be assembling everything off the car on the spare chassis with engine in it. Make that E run like hell until I move all the parts. may have to see what it takes to blow an m20, lol.

I will start putting up pics as I start, lol.

                      sweet!
I'll help all I can. I know I'm new here, but am very knowledgeable with turbo cars, and F/I in general..
Lord knows I've had/built enough of them..
