    Brilliantrot 1990 325is 5sp - 113k M20 2.7L Stroker

    UPDATE 3/21 - Read Carefully:

Car is running. It's loud - exhaust hasn't been assembled, video:

    https://youtu.be/kl9yGWxNZ2g

    3/22 Update:

Photos of rockers, battery tray, trunk & underside - in great shape.

What it still needs to be *driving*: connect shift linkage, replace brake line (one snapped after replacing rotors/pads recently) and flush brake fluid/ bleed system to get the clutch to work.

The tires are old and leak air - so you'll want to replace those, but since they're 14" weaves I'm sure you have something nicer/larger to put on there anyway.

Priced extremely fairly for what it is and all the spares - I'm moving in less than a week and the car is at the shop ready to be picked up in Westchester IL. Title in hand.

    ***************************************

Emergency sale - got a job offer across the country and this was a project I can't keep/finish.

    • 1990 325is
    • 5speed
    • ~113k (original) miles on chassis
    • Fully optioned
    • Clean carfax

    Background

The previous owner swapped a 2.7L M20 stroker with about 1k on it, rebuilt transmission with similar miles - but did not finish the swap. I don't have documentation or any other supporting info.

I did the following work recently: New battery, new fluids (oil, coolant, brake fluid), new brakes (rotors, pads, rebuilt calipers), new starter. The car was cranking and getting spark, but couldn't turn over.

Towed it to BMW specialists B&D automotive with Ben Thongsai who's got it running, but it will need a few more items to drive away/get clutch/brakes working: Connect shift linkage, replace brake line (one snapped), bleed system.

    Exterior:

The car has a really nice body. with the exception of the front left fender (DOT-R) - all original paint, verified with paint gauge (see photos). The underside has surface rust, but sills and battery box are minty. Comes with Euro grilles & correct IS lip.

    Interior

Awesome condition. Perfect bolsters, clean carpets and rear seats, uncracked dash, original radio and documentation, untouched. Few cars are like this.

Standard airbag wheel is in the car.

    What it still needs:
    • Suspension is tired and 4x4 status, you'll want to replace that.
    • Headers, exhaust, piping and muffler are removed. Included are *new* headers, X-pipe, piping and magna flow muffler - should sound amazing
    • Once the car is done at the shop and ready to drive, I would still recommend trailering it home.

    Extras
    • Tons of spares - switches, buttons, amps
    • Headlights, tail lights, fogs, fog ducts
    • Two Extra sets of weaves with caps
    • Dinan SSK
    • Mint rear parcel tray & hi fi speakers
    • Rear headrest kit w/ hardware
    • Zender spoiler
    • 2 sets of 14" weaves
    • Roof Rack
    • Bunch of other stuff....

I do not have any other photos now, that's it - car is at the shop getting finished.

    Price: $5800

Put a weekend of work into this guy and you have a $10k E30. The swap alone should be worth the price of admission.

    Car is in Chicago.

Nope - you get it all. I’ll reduce the price a couple hundred bucks before the shop work completes if you just want the shell

I’d be interested in getting a PPI and then shipping it to California.

No idea - and two points about it:
                • Paint readings: Only the driver's fender is repainted and replaced, so it cannot be that bad.
                • And honestly most people don't ever include carfaxes on their e30... these cars are 30 years old so it's hard to verify what those records mean, if anything.

There is a ton of interest in the car locally and from out of state - so if you are actually interested in doing something about it, PM me.

If the car gets to be in running state this week, I may give it to a friend to finish and sort out and it will be a $9-10k car. I'm certain of this - the shell alone is worth a few grand.

Great bones for a project here. I'm far more tempted than I should be, as this is almost exactly how I purchased my current '90 iS.

By "1K mile 2.7 stroker", do you mean an e bottom end with an 885? Rebuilt with rings/bearings/associated gaskets?

That's my understanding of it when it was purchased - I had tried to reach out to the PO for more clarification, but he never got back to me.

Also added several more photos in the gallery and a video of the car starting/idling:

Seriously folks - you are an afternoon away from a 325is with a great body, perfect interior, rebuilt engine and tons of great spares for around $5k. I've done the major legwork.

                        Let's get this done!

Nice car. You must be very wealthy for a “weekend of work” not worth $4200 to you. :)
