The 50 is a good if not the best way to add very affordable fast glass to your bag. They are very very versitial no doubt about that. But it can be sort of hard to make "interesting or dramatic" images due to its inherent perspective . It has a very similar perspective to our eyes so things "look like they are supposed to". Unlike if you use a Telephoto you compress your DOF and this makes features look larger and more dramatic, as when you use a wide angle you add lots of separation in DOF and make things look a bit smaller than they are naturally. The good thing with the fast aperture though you get that wonderful shallow DOF to get you subject isolation
