M20 Oil Cooler Outlet Thread: Is it replaceable?

    Hello R3vers,

Does anyone know if the outlet threading is replaceable? I had to replace my outlet pipe, and (stupidly) ruined the threading upon re-installation of a new outlet pipe...

Does anyone have experience removing/replacing them?
My next option would be to re-thread it or completely replace the cooler (which looks pretty beat up anyway).

    Thanks in advance!

Alas, it is not, unless you can braze.

Those USED to be cheap in the junkyard,
but they've gotten hard to find around here, lately.

I would try to re thread it first. Maybe re-thread and if it still leaks than to thread on/ braze on a new coupling onto the existing piece. aiming to seal the leak while brazing the new coupling on.

                I've had similar repaired.

You need to find a fitting that you can braze onto it, if you go to a decent hydraulics shop they can supply something suitable and braze it on, it probably wont be the same thread though as that is probably a metric fine thread.

Then you need to adapt the oem piping to whatever new fitting that you have welded on. Which will probably involve cutting the oem piping and brazing a new suitable fitting onto it. It would be a good idea to cut it back further and add a bit of flexire line to it to make it nicer to bolt up. hard lines not much fine if they aren't made perfect.

Much easier to just find a new oil cooler if you can. though looking at your photo, number 4 is an o-ring. if you can get the thread good enough to wind on tightish the o-rinig should still seal.

^^^ Yup. Use the eta oil filter to block adapter and lose the cooler.
