Okay so after getting tired of my sunroof molding constantly separating and the little rubber piece falling out and hanging out while sunroof was tilted i decided i shall replace the 2 piece molding that goes around the outside of the Sunroof sounds easy right?
So far this has been nothing but a pain in my rear! I can honestly say ive spent more time trying to get this fixed then it took to do my headgasket. Freeway driving with no seal is annoying.
So here is my problem real oem says that the perimeter of the 2 gaskets/moldings is 2580mm 930 being the front molding and 1650 in the rear.
When i go to install mine i always have about 2-3in of slack and I'm trying to install with sunroof on the car due to having my headliner reupholstered and I prefer not to tamper with it.
I Work as a Technician and this is nothing new to me and i really think BMW is incorrectly bagging this seal.
I've ordered both seals from ECS Tuning and the front measured 930mm which is correct however the rear gasket measured 67inches (1701.8mm) I am using a cloth ruler and placing it inside the molding. So I contacted ECS and they sent me both replacement seals and sure enough Front molding measured out to be 930mm and the rear again 67inches so i have a gasket 2inches longer than it should be and i have roughly 2inches of slack when both moldings are installed.
So i returned the rear gasket and went to the Dealer thinking it had to be their source and paid 40$ more in markups to get the exact same length again 67inches 1701.8mm
Has anyone encountered this am I Doing this wrong. Unfortunately I threw out my oem one before I could compare to the new one I'm going strictly off of measurements.
