    Anyone try this booster setup?

So this morning before I fell asleep (I work nights), I was thinking about how I'm going to do the booster set up in my E30 for the M60. I've already gone through a lot of build threads on UK E30 forums looking how they did mounted up theirs. Their stock boosters are in the same location as LHD, but RHD just has a crazy linkage for the pedals to work.

Anyway my plan is to relocate the booster before I start the swap to get any possible gremlins worked out. Everyone seems to have their own variation of 3 methods of mounting the booster securely. Either they make their own mounts, try to use the factory E32/E34/E39 mount, or a hybrid of those two.

For my swap I think I'm going to buy one of these setups for LS1 swap E30s. They run into the same problem as us of where to mount the booster. I want something that's pretty much bolt in.

    Problems I foresee:

    • How thick is the rear section of the linkage that mounts to the firewall?
    • Where it's designed to mount, you can't use a vacuum booster. So either you would have to use hydroboost or move the front mount farther up, relocate the ABS unit, and then get a longer crank.
    • Side mount will need to be either relocated or fab up a mount towards the front it can use.

    So thoughts?

Looks like exhaust clearance might be close...?

Looks similar to the setup on an E34 540i which I believe is what people use normally?

Yeah, Why make something totally new when you can just bolt on a 540 system.

Anyone have some up close pics of that area? I figured the piece on the firewall would be more of a concern with clearance near the head.

                Not exactly. ;)

How so? It uses threaded rods and mounts the assembly at the front of the motor. Not saying it is exactly the same or the perfect solution but I thought that is what most were doing when mounting to the E30. Could be wrong but just wondering.

Let me rephrase, a pic with the engine in place showing header placement.

You have to make mounts and relocate or delete the ABS pump. This piece is more bolt in and go, minus drilling a few holes for mounting. While it's more complicated, I have a real good feeling it works a hell of a lot better and there's no hacking up the strut tower in the revised version. Everyone who uses the 540i set up does it a little bit different then the last guy.

In this picture that I posted you can see the abs pump under the booster in the right side of the picture.

Exhaust is of no concern... it is no where near to interfering with that set-up anymore than with the OEM remote setup from the E32/34. It looks like a nice setup, but I think your concern about the firewall mounted piece is a bigger consideration... depending on how far back you mount the motor. In mine, that part would not clear the driver's side cylinder head, no doubt about it. You can only get 2 fingers between the head and the firewall on the drivers side on mine. Still looks nice, but someone needs to put a non-angled reservoir on that setup... you can tell the MC came from a GM, lol! Not that I'm interested, but what's that setup cost? It would be good info for future swappers to have...

$350 for the set up minus hydrobooster and the master. It's a bit pricey, but it is pretty much drop in.

BTW you made your own mounts didn't you? I was going to use the 300mm.de ones, but I'll have to make a post across the pond to see what their clearance was.

                              JT,
Get a hold of Jonsku... he can give you all the details of those mounts. IIRC, they have at least 2 different mounting positions, maybe 3. I did make mine, but I wanted mine as far back as was feasible, without modifying the firewall or driveshaft.
That's a fair price for that... it looks to be well engineered and made of quality stuff...
