    Won't go into gear!

    1989 325is M20, 5spd.

I haven't drove my car for awhile. Today I started it and it refuses to go into gear. I checked the clutch reservoir and it has fluid. The clutch itself feels soft. If the car is turned off I can put the car into gear but not when it's running. Any ideas?

    Thanks

The clutch hydraulics are probably shot. Jack the car up and have a friend pump the pedal - see if the clutch fork moves. If not, maybe bleeding it will temporarily help...

Either your clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder has died. Check for leaks under the dash and under the car from the side of the transmission.

Thanks guys! Yes I'm having both the clutch master and slave cylinder replaced.

What did this turn out to be. Just had the same issue and swapping slaves in a couple mins. Then if necessary will swap master cylinder.
