One of the saddest days of my life

    A little backstory:
I got my E30 in early May of this year. I had wanted the car since middle school and was like a kid on Christmas day when I got it. I worked for a long time minimum wage (highschool, now college student) and drove 8 hours with a couple buddies to pick it up. The car was in great shape, had 189,000 miles on a working odo, and even though it was a 4 door and I wanted a coupe I loved it just the same. After about three weeks of having it the timing system went out and an older mechanically inclined friend and I spent about a week fixing it. I was upset but that's why I bought the car. The plan was to slowly restore it over time and make it into a good DD/fun car. Fast forward about 3 more weeks and the HG went out so that was replaced DIY as well. It sucked but was a good feeling to know that it was something I didn't have to worry about as well. Over the last couple months tons of time and work was put into it. A medium case 4.10 LSD was swapped in, all the fluids changed, all new belts, new water pump, new gaskets almost everywhere, all the works.

Now to the saddest day of my life. Driving home from the mall with some friends yesterday and a guy in a first gen Miata cuts me off, I hit the brakes and swerved but the collision was pretty much inevitable after he didn't yield to me. (I had the green light, he was trying to make a left into another street). The guy was really nice about it, admitted his fault, wasn't an asshole, etc etc but my car is most likely still totaled. There were no serious injuries; it could have been worse. The whole front end of my car is bashed in about 2 or 3 feet. :(:( This isn't the end, hopefully I get compensated well by insurance, and hopefully I can get back into the E30 game quickly and get another dream car!

That stinks man. I'm glad everyone involved is OK, but that car is most likely totaled. Do your research and fight with insurance to get what the car is worth, and then buy it back from the insurance company (usually only a couple hundred dollars), buy another e30, swap over all your good new or refreshed parts and part out the rest. It might take some work, but you can come out of this on top.

What should I expect the offer to be from the insurance company? I bought the car for 2,400 and put over 1,500 worth of parts into it so I need to get as much money as possible.

I would be F@#KING pissed if that happened to my car. I have owned my car for 14 years i would be ready to kill something/somebody. Sorry for the rant and sorry for your loss :( and everybody was ok.:)

Once I find out if I can buy the car back Ill start working on the partout. In terms of pricing just shoot me a reasonable offer on pretty much anything on the car and its yours. I need to get the car back first though :p

                      It's an e30. You'll be fine.

Damn, well that sucks a big ol bag of dicks, at least it wasn't your fault.

On the plus side, you can get a m20 car this time around instead of that m42 nonsense

As long as I get a decent sum of cash from insurance an M20 coupe is my goal

I'd fix it. Damage doesn't look that bad really. New fender, hood, valence and bumper cover, maybe a new core support.

                            Check this out:

                              1. Listen to this guy.

                              2. Sorry you had this experience. That is truly terrible.

                              3. On the bright side, I have a shit load of parts, some useful some not, in my storage locker in monterey. I also have a set of wheels laying around, an unopened HG set, etc. etc. If you need parts or labor while you're rebuilding or upgrading your new ride just holler. I'm local.
