or paint over the bulb with some transparent type of paint- easiest i think.
the direction indicator on that piece pictured is for a trailer hitch. if you are towing it is european law to have a second indicator to remind you that you do have a trailer in tow.

I actually used a black sharpie. Easiest thing ever, and no mess. It is barely visible in the daylight, and about matches the gauge backlighting at night.
