    e34 oil pan baffle?

    Okay, so apparently there are 2 different e34 m50 oil pans, one with a baffle (windage tray) and one without (or just different?).

    With:


    Without (top):


    I have the "without" version, so my question is, do I keep the e36 engine baffle? Or do I remove it also?

    If your tray does not have the baffle, you should keep the e36 one in.

      Yup, if it fits, keep it.

      I've been told by a windage and scraper expert that the E34 windage tray is a better design than than the E36 one.
      I don't always wreck cars, but when I do I wreck them into trees.

        And what about the e36 pickup tube bracket? Does that still need to be removed if I'm keeping the e36 baffle?

        EDIT: nevermind. dumb question. I shoulda tried mounting the pan before asking this. It definitely does need to be removed.

          Now I know why they say to break that bracket off. It's much cleaner to just remove it completely by removing the crank main cap bolts and pulling it outta there, but you'll haveta replace those bolts and re-torque them to 20Nm and 50 degrees.

            yeah i would suggest just cutting it off with a dremel or something and make sure no metal shavings are left. No real reason to remove the main crank bolts and replacing them. If you do that you might as well replace them all, you wouldnt want any irregularities between your crank bolts. (someone correct me if im wrong on this, im just going off my own speculation)

              You are wrong. But at least you are using your brain! :)

              Just pull the two and replace them with two fresh ones. Its very easy to do.

                Just FYI, the pans without the built in baffle did have a baffle bolted to the block.

                Anyone know if the S50 baffle can be removed from the block and the E34 baffle bolted back on in its place? If that's the case then there would be no need for cutting or anything, you would just remove the E36 pan and baffle and replace with an E34 pan either using the integrated or separate baffle depending on your pan. Right???

                  They are talking about the bracket that holds the e36 oil pickup, which needs to be removed/broken/dremeled off in order to fit the e34 oil pan.
