A mapped s54 on a standalone with double vanos gives you similar power to a s52 stage 1.5 supercharger or stage 1 turbo s52 power but with no blower/turbo. Obviously the boosted platforms would have boosted torque delivery (and boosted issues).
Also the high rpm sheer velocity is a fun kick; Similar to a built turbo motor with high cams.OBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25
